Just finished a few touches to a newish project for my Year 8 woodwork class. I found the basic plan a few years ago in an old Makita school resource and used it to help a casual teacher get through a tough patch last year. The students seemed to like it so I used it myself this semester and had some great results. I’ve completed the 3D model using Sketchup and placed it on the 3Dwarehouse for anyone to download, use and modify. The model contains 5 variations on the basic model just click through the scenes. I haven’t been too picky with layers, it’s all pretty basic. The majority of the work is with 19mm and 12mm stock, with a 50mm holw saw for the wheels. I’ll prepare some PDF working drawings soon so stay tuned.

The original Lego patent
Lego we all love those little bricks and yellow figs. It’s a rare ‘toy’ that allows for so much creativity and fun for all ages. For the first time, this year Lego has become the worlds second largest toy manufacturer and as it looks to new emerging markets such as China perhaps it is fast approaching the number one spot. I spoke to my class today about patents and just happened upon this image on Twitter and thought I’d share. The original Lego patent.

Old photos found!
One of the first posts on this blog was the famous Mudgee jeep project we build during Stage 4 Industrial Tech Timber – Toy making. Find the link to the post here which contains the drawings and the 3d model. Here’s a picture I just found (the only one in focus) of a student project from about 2008/9 sitting in a folder just gathering virtual dust. Other photos in this folder contain a fuzzy Mr Wheeler pulling a face and various fuzzy shots of students working.
F-16 Timber Toy
The second project from our Industrial Technology TW02 Toy Maker unit has gone back onto the 3Dwarehouse. Some students are now sure that this is actually an F-15? Anyway I thought I made an F-16 but feel free to take this model and modify it so it becomes an F-16… or maybe I should just change the file name.
Sketchup models are returning
Our once large collection of Google Sketchup models had to be removed from the 3D warehouse community site earlier in the year. But now I’ve decided to bring them back so keep an eye on this blog for further updates, additions and perhaps some cool student works. The first model to be uploaded is the Timber Jeep project from our Tech Wood 02 Toy Making unit. Click on the picture to get the model.
