QR codes, what are they?

QR Code (abbreviated from Quick Response Code). You may have seen them around, packaging, advertisements or documents. They can link you to all sorts of information URLs, emails, names… almost anything. How can you read them? Well you’ll need a computer and a camera, hang on you probably have one in your bag (your phone/iPod), please keep it in your bag while at school though. So because Technology teachers come from the future, we have started incorporating this tech into our systems to record our daily safety checks on our machinery. Maybe you can use them somewhere?

Sketchup models are returning

Our once large collection of Google Sketchup models had to be removed from the 3D warehouse community site earlier in the year. But now I’ve decided to bring them back so keep an eye on this blog for further updates, additions and perhaps some cool student works. The first model to be uploaded is the Timber Jeep project from our Tech Wood 02 Toy Making unit. Click on the picture to get the model.

A Grade-A student…

What are you gonna write on my report sir?

Well now you will know simply by looking up in J7. Signage has been applied to assist you in understanding what type of students (future apprentices and trades people) we want to help you become. No longer will you need to log off Facebook and head to the Board of Studies and read the official Industrial Technology Performance Descriptors. Get smart, get the report comment and grade you deserve by aiming to be a student who can…

J7 workbenches in the process of repair

Two benches are now restored and two more are almost finished! It takes a long time to fully complete each bench, so please be patient if you use this room. Also, please use them as they are intended to be used. No one expects them to remain perfect and general wear and tear will occur, however, deliberate attempts to damage these benches ultimately result in poor quality jobs and hurt us all in the long run.

New door signage

With the thanks of our recently purchased Roland Vinyl Cutter, no longer will students get lost looking for Technology rooms J4, J5, J6 and J7 as they are now correctly and clearly marked (colour coded also BTW). Please let someone in the Technology Faculty know if there are any other incorrectly or unidentified areas of the school, we’re here to help.

Never miss a detention reminder ever again!

More new signage

Last year some visitors were in the school during one of our emergency procedure drills (a lockdown). Unfortunately our signage was a little difficult for someone new to quickly understand (you know, in an emergency). Well J7 is the first room to get one of the new emergency procedure signs which have been fully produced by the Technology Faculty using skills, software and techniques covered in many of our subjects, especially in our Graphics courses. Anyone with an interested in layout, design or a thinking of a future in a creative industry should seriously consider choosing Graphics Technology. Oh, and imagine how schmick your next assignment or folio could be with a little extra insider knowledge.

Accuracy is the key

Every student who does Industrial Arts understands the importance of working from a cutting list. J7 now has a dedicated cutting list which will hang on the wall. Keep an eye on it, work on your accuracy, it will make a difference in the quality of your finished projects. Remember what all good tradies know …

Measure twice, cut once
