Wall quotes

Some of you may have noticed the occasional quote from Kurt Cobain to Dr Seuss around the school recently, if you haven’t well keep your eyes peeled. If you have a positive quote, interesting fact, well anything that may brighten someones day or make someone pause and think for a moment. Then post it in the comment section of this article. Feel free to add a location or room as to where you may like to see this and maybe it can happen.

iPod Dock project needs to be revised

Last semesters TW03 iPod Dock was built around the old Apple 30 pin plug /iPod Touch and iPhone 4 but next year many students will want to make it to suit Apple’s new 8 pin plug and larger iPhone/iPod. So time to get in early and make an alternative redesign. I have some Steam codes for the best design made with Sketchup or ProDesktop.

J7 Job Board

Anyone looking for full time or part time work may want to check out the new J7 job board. And to get you started a sample CV/Resume has been added. It’s always hard to get these things started but any student needing some advice on writing a CV/Resume come and see me in the TAS staffroom and maybe I can help.

Construction builders carry all

We made the builders carry all the first project this year so students could use it to store pieces for other projects as the year progresses. The 3D model is now online.

Download a PDF of the plans for the carryall here.

An ex-student who left the 2011 cohort when he got an apprenticeship was seen working at school last Friday carrying his tools in an old 10Ltr bucket. This student never took his toolbox home. Now during construction some of the equipment you can make to go in the toolbox are carpenters mallet, oilstone case (both pictured in the 2012 image below), a marking gauge, a try square and soon I hope a hand plane. Imagine turning up for work experience with gear you had made and know how to use. You can make the right impression if you want. It only takes effort, patience, listening, watching, thinking and trying. When you choose VET Construction make it count.

Here's the demo unit I made with the 2011 crew
Using parts that were cut too short by a student this year, this is a modified unit

Resistor Colour Wheel

Organising some work for my Tech Graphics class today and while using Illustrator I knocked up a Resistor Colour Wheel for anyone who does electronics. I made one with a class many years ago but had long since lost the worksheet which I built with Publisher. I made this one up for a colleague who I was explaining the idea to the other day. It’s so interesting  to remake resources like this with new tools and new skills, it makes you fully realise how far the technology has progressed, or perhaps how much I learned.

Anyway download it with the link (the pre-coloured one is for the teacher) and use it in class.

Old design process poster…

Another poster found, this one relating to Design & Technology. It dates back 8 years ago and was made using Publisher. Would I make it different now? Yeah, I would try to simplify it and maybe spread it over a series of posters, however, it’s not on my immediate to do list so here it is, as it was from 2004.

J7 goes PBL!

A new safety sign promoting Mudgee High Schools PBL drive has been installed in J7, why? and how is it different from a regular safety sign? Well safety has always been our first priority and safe behavior will always look the same. So it shouldn’t be about catching you doing the wrong thing but about telling you why we do the right thing. Be Safe, Responsible & Respectful.
